Requirements

Honours degree (NQF 8) in Natural/Environmental Sciences or relevant SAQA-recognised qualification and three years' relevant experience. Knowledge and experience in criminal and administrative enforcement, investigations, criminal procedures and biodiversity legislation, including NEMBA, NEMA, CITES and CBD. Environmental Management Inspector certificate advantageous. Policy formulation, negotiation, stakeholder engagement and presentation skills. Computer literacy, valid driver's licence and willingness to travel and work under pressure.

Duties

Enforce biodiversity legislation and coordinate enforcement operations. Conduct criminal investigations, manage crime scenes and open cases. Liaise with prosecutors, police and enforcement stakeholders. Implement the National Compliance and Enforcement Information system. Develop and facilitate national enforcement policies, strategies and programmes for TOPS, CITES, AIS and BABS regulations. Support Environmental Management Inspectors and participate in interdepartmental policy and legislative reform forums.
