Government jobs in South Africa: common questions
How often are DPSA vacancies published?
The Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) publishes a Public Service Vacancy Circular almost every week, usually on a Friday. We add every post the same day and check official sources daily.
How do I apply for a government job in South Africa?
Complete the new Z83 application form, attach a detailed CV, and send it to the address or email in the advert before the closing date, quoting the reference number. Our free Z83 filler does the form for you.
Are late applications accepted?
No. Government departments do not accept applications received after the closing date, so apply at least a few days early — especially when posting or couriering.
Do I need certified copies?
Most departments now ask only for a Z83 and CV at first, and request certified copies of your ID and qualifications if you are shortlisted. Always follow the instructions in the specific advert.
What do salary levels mean?
Public service posts are graded from Level 1 to Level 16. See our salary levels guide for what each level pays.
