Requirements

Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Technologist in Cardiology. Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as Clinical Technologist: Cardiology. Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical Technologist: Cardiology in respect of RSA qualified employees. 1-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical Technologist: Cardiology in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa. Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical Technologist: Cardiology respect of SA qualified employees. Duties

Perform electrocardiograms (ECGs) on patients in laboratory, ward, and intensive care unit (ICU) settings to monitor and assess rhythm abnormalites. Conduct stress tests and exercise tolerance tests in laboratory settings to evaluate cardiac performance under physical exertion. Perform echocardiography (including transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms) on patients in Echo unit, ward, and ICU settings to assess heart structure and function. Carry out Holter monitoring and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring to evaluate cardiac rhythm and blood pressure over extended periods. Perform advanced cardiac diagnostic procedures, such as tilt table testing and cardiac event monitoring, in laboratory and clinical settings. Assist in cardiac catheterization procedures and other interventional cardiology procedures in the catheterization laboratory with regards to hemodynamics and emerge
