Requirements

Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry. Registration with a professional council: Registration with HPCSA, as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry. Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Psychiatry. Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry, after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognized foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee). Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist in Psychiatry, after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognized foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign-qualified employee). Duties

Clinical service delivery at specialist level across the full spectrum of district level Psychiatry, including wards, outpatients, Emergency Centre and specialised clinics at Khayelitsha District Hospital. Administrative & clinical governance including leadership, People Management processes, OPD management, data analysis, and quality improvement. Teaching, training and supervision of junior medical staff and students with participation in the hospital academic program as well as outreach supervision to primary health care nurse practitioners. Domain specific outputs and participation within the KESS ecosystem, including participation in and alignment with district-hospital-level services, referral facilities and Mental Health Care Review Board liaison.
