Requirements
Grade 12 and BVSc/BVMCh; registration with the South African Veterinary Council as a Veterinarian. At least one year as a State Veterinarian or Compulsory Community Service veterinarian in a South African regulatory state veterinary area. Knowledge of the Animal Diseases Act, Meat Safety Act, ISO-IEC 17025 and import/export facilitation. Analytical, research, communication, administration and problem-solving skills; ability to work in a team, under pressure and extended hours. Valid weapons competency for handguns, shotguns and rifles, relevant firearm licence and valid driver's licence.
Duties
Plan and coordinate wildlife disease surveillance, monitoring and control; perform necropsies, laboratory diagnostics and clinical services for working dogs. Conduct epidemiological investigations and applied research. Provide wildlife veterinary public health services, culling and abattoir inspections. Undertake disease risk assessments, extension and information services; advise on buffalo testing and movement. Assess gene bank facilities and contribute to disease-control policies, standards and legislation. Manage office and personnel administration, reports, budgets, procurement and training.
