Requirements

National Diploma in Legal Interpreting or equivalent NQF 6 qualification (360 credits) with two years' court interpreting experience, or Grade 12 with ten years' court interpreting experience. Proficiency in English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa. Other indigenous languages, foreign language knowledge and a valid driver's licence are advantages. Knowledge of relevant legislation and translation; computer literacy, communication, planning and analytical skills.

Duties

Interpret in criminal, civil, family, labour and other court proceedings, pre-trials and consultations. Arrange foreign language interpreters and liaise with the judiciary. Provide accurate, clear interpretation without omissions or embellishment. Translate and revise legal documents, exhibits and recorded audio. Research and develop terminology databases, support reconstruction of records and provide administrative support to the judiciary and court management.
